One Laptop per Child Project
November 11th, 2007 7:12 PM
I have had a great life, and I feel that I have been blessed with opportunity. Coming from a middle class background with an emphasis on education, I have had advantages the others have not had. I feel that it is important to give back to the community, and to give back to the earth that has given us so much. How does this relate to my 60th birthday on December 11th? I have a lot of people coming to a celebration of my 60 years that my girlfriend is ramroding and it will be as we say in Oklahoma, a hoot and a holler. Everyone wants to know what presents I want on this iconic date. What I want is for them to bring money, and not for me. For the project started by Nicholas Negroponte that aspires to give every child in the third world, a specially designed laptop. For $400, you can send a laptop to a deserving child, and receive one to your home. I plan on giving one to a local deserving child. I want everyone who comes to my party to contribute to this. I have worked on charities for many years for AIDS, for seniors, and for art. Now I think it is time for all children to have the education and information that the internet can bring. Go to http://laptop.org/vision and check it out. Bring the world home to all children locally and internationally. I bought 6 laptops yesterday and it feels really good.
